How are the data determined?

Like many others, I want to know which pages on my website are being visited. In the past, server log files were often analyzed for this purpose - however, these files count not only real visitors, but also bots and crawlers. The advantage today is that such automated accesses usually do not execute JavaScript - a clear advantage for differentiation.

This led to solutions such as Google Analytics and Matomo. These tools provide a wealth of data, but they usually use long-lasting cookies, which can be problematic from a data privacy perspective.

In order to gain some basic insights nonetheless, I took inspiration from the solution at www.indielytics.link: Each time a page is accessed, a small JavaScript sends the accessed path to the server. An anonymous hash is created from the IP address, browser ID, and date.

No conclusions about IP addresses or other request data can be drawn from the generated hash - it cannot be traced back. Only this hash is stored together with the path accessed. All data is automatically deleted after 7 days. On this basis, simple, anonymous evaluations can be created - without any personal tracking.
